Brimfield 2012

Time passes by quickly when you're at the Brimfield Antique Show.
The weather was a 100 times better this fall then last ( remember all the rain and flooding?) It's hard work being a vendor let alone having to deal with bad weather.
Luckily it turned out to be a sunny day....maybe a little hot for some.
I wore white to be cool........at first
Hubby reminded me that it was after Labor day and you're not suppose to where white:) when did he become such a fashion expert? so I wore a gray shirt over all the white.

Anyways here is some of the cool stuff I saw.

I saw that iron table and chairs almost right away and knew that I had to go by it when I went back to my car at the end of the day. I figured if it was still there it was meant to be.

I spent a great amount of time at Dusty's booth with all the linens. On the other side of the walkway she has a great selection of ribbons, fabrics and trims.  I know I should have taken more photos.
I was too busy shopping.

I will be back to show you more when my computer is on it's best behavior.

Thanks for stopping by,

Carole

Hi Carole, Would you please enlighten me. Where is this "no wearing white after Labour Day" rule coming from? I have heard that but it sounds stupid to me. Before I knew about it, I had for sure outed myself as a dumb tourist during several December vacations in FL, lol. The heck with it! I don't care, ha. I don't like to follow fashion rules a lot anyway.

Thank you for showing us around at the Brimfield fair. I'm so in love with that beautiful door with the etched window, sigh. The booth with the linen and laces, mmmhhhh, YUMMY! Ha, I see a woman in a white T-shirt standing there. She must be subordinate or a a tourist ... ;-).
Love the cage and the buckets too. The purple of the bottles is really amazing.

Hopefully your computer decides to behave itself better soon ...

Big hugs to you, my dear friend
Julia

The ban on white after Labor Day is a Southern thing, I think, and it's not white clothes but white SHOES that are out of fashion in the fall and winter (in the version of the 'rule' I've always heard).

I can see why you spent so much time in the booth with the linens. So much beautiful temptation!

My Mom always stressed the 'white' rule, but I think also that it mainly pertains to shoes.

Brimfield is on my 'bucket list'...maybe some day. Thanks for sharing and giving us a glimpse of wonder.

Take care,
Susie

Being raised in the South, Mother always said "no white shoes before Memorial Day or after Labor Day." She never said no to white clothing...unless we were goin' to a wedding! I also wasn't allowed to wear black patent shoes until after Easter, but not after Labor Day.
Now what I want to know is...was the iron set "meant to be"?

Love that table you bought. The purple bottle are striking too. Life is far too short to fuss over fashion rules from the past. Wear whatever you want to. hugs, Olive

Hi Carole,

I think you would have fitted in well with all the gorgeous white there at Brimfield.
It always used to be, never wearing white shoes over here after Easter.
Thank you for showing us around this wonderful Antique show, would so love to be there. Your photos are gorgeous, really loved all the lace, linen and the pretty purple glass.
Look forward to seeing what you came home with.
Enjoy the weekend

Hugs
Carolyn

Oh dear Carole
my heart is skipping beats over all you've shown us here!!!
You must have taken that table & chairs home - love it.

Now about the labour day white thing - may I offer my two cents worth? I'm wondering if in the northern hemisphere, Autumn signalled the time to prepare for Winter.
Those beautiful cotton and lace white Summer dresses and linen jackets were washed, ironed and packed away for next year....

I hadn't heard of that before, but it's just a thought!

Lovely to see you had popped in to see me - thank you!
hugs and love

Dear Carole, I bet you looked just so right in your white, for Brimfield!! Those rules are stodgy by today's standards anyway! Wish I could have joined you, have not made it to Brimfield yet! I love the etched door...gorgeous! I have beed hoarding one for a few years now, it has a peacock on it, with some roses....I am using it as the door to my new closet...hope it works out well. Thank you for taking me along on this very special tour, N.xo

Seriously?!? Since when does a man know anything about fashion?!?! Obviously he heard that a long time ago because my understanding is that anymore white is ALWAYS in fashion. Really! I may be a man but I am also a FELINE of the utmost fashion ;) Aren't all tabbies?!!

Thanks for sharing the pictures! And taken with a phone no less! "She" used a phone to take show pictures but they didn't turn out as good as yours. Probably because I am told "she" was in a hurry to escape the opening-of-the-gates-crowd. Ah well, at least I have YOUR pictures to look at! I shall leave now. Dreaming of all those cups and saucers filled tot he brim with milk....ah bliss......

Purrs,

Romeo
