NEST in Mystic, Ct

George and I went to visit Marcia at NEST back in October.....I know, where does the time go? I'd meant to share it much earlier.
I finally got the photos transferred from my phone. For some strange reason I couldn't get them to transfer so I emailed them to myself. Pretty easy:)  Anyways here they are. I'm sure the shop is now full of beautiful Christmas decor. Marcia and her staff are amazing.
In case you didn't know they moved from their old location just down the road.
Say hi to the girls for me.

Mystic Seaport

sign
I knew right away when my niece said she was coming for a visit that I wanted to take her to
Mystic, Ct.
One of my favorite towns.
Though we go to Mystic often or at least as much as we can,
it had been around 18 yrs ago since we went to the Seaport.
The day had started off being overcast but it seemed soon after we arrived the sun came out
which made picture taking a lot more fun.

I took a lot but don’t worry I won’t show you all of them : )

but there’s still a lot of them

I always wonder who the lucky people are who get to live across the water.
Of course when you come here and can’t help but wonder
what it would have been like to live in this village back then when it was a Whaling community.
We of course learned about what went into getting the oil from the whales.
I won’t be getting into all that….
kind of yucky business though it was necessary back then.
Just glad we don’t have to do it now.
Have you ever watched Whale Wars on Animal Planet ???
Check out their videos if you have time.

Ok back to the pretty stuff……

This was mid October and the leaves were already off so many trees. It has not been the usual
Fall colors we look forward to seeing. The hurricane/ tropical storm did a number on so many.

Coming here off peak made for a peaceful day.
No crowds!

village

Not all the buildings were here originally…..many were saved from all over New England.

I was loving this building with the overflowing window boxes.
They were getting a change out with mums and ornamental kale.
Talked to the maintenance man and I learned that they have their own greenhouses, and though
I was a little curious as to where they were, I didn’t ask.

This is the Buckingham Hall house that was moved from Old Saybrook back when the
Baldwin Bridge was built in the 50’s.

I love the kitchen.
I much prefer unfitted cabinets.

And love the huge fireplace.
Imagine making all your meals from here? Probably they had a summer kitchen so the house didn’t
get so hot during the summer months.

The Pharmacy was one of my favorite buildings full of old apothecary bottles with strange and interesting
ways to cure your ailment.

It was wonderful stepping back in time for a few hours.
Life was hard back then and it makes me thankful that we have it pretty easy now.

I wonder if in only 100 yrs from now they’ll look back at how we lived and
think…..

How did they do it???

Nest is Moving!

YES Nest is moving!
after over 15 yrs. Marcia is moving her
beloved shop.....
I'm sure she won't miss the leaky roof but
 after being in a location
that long it is hard to say goodbye and get used
 to a new place.

The good news is that she found a place just down the road.
You can even see it from her shop window,
 it's that close.
Makes the hauling not as bad.
Many of her big pieces of display furniture had
already been moved.

The new location will have just as much charm as the old
one that I am sure.

A beachy theme for the locals and the tourists...
remember Nest is in a seaside community of Mystic, Ct.

The natural look of shells goes so well with all her neutral palette.
She pointed out that she's begun to carry more antiques and vintage pieces like she used to years ago.

It blends beautifully with some of her newer pieces.

Vintage scrabble pieces are a fun display to
add some whimsey.
Lovely lady trio

You can't call yourself NEST without a few feathers
flying around!

Always gorgeous soaps and personal care products
to bring to your hostess.

I think the sign on this chair said
"Project Chair"
It looked pretty good to me.
Nigella wouldn't even need to break it in!!!!

Great crystal ball
...now if only they really could predict the future
I'd have one in every room wouldn't you?

I think Marcia is as addicted to ribbon as I am!

and so well organized.

In the front of the shop she has some of the nicest clothing
I've ever seen.
I tried on a couple of things but I think I still need to
shed  a few lbs.
Uggh the struggle continues!

You know there had to be jewelry.
The shops prides itself on having a little bit of everything,
new, antique, paper, candles, soaps, cards, clothing, ribbon,
wall art, seasonal and even jewelry.

One stop shopping

Did I mention that she had a whole room of sale items.

Now I maybe a little late in telling you about the sale.
I believe it was the beginning of Sept. that she'd be in her new spot.

Her new digs will be in this plaza
at 80 Stonington rd Mystic, Ct.
If you'd like to call the shop for their hours it's
860-536-5400

I can just imagine how awesome these window will look
during the holidays.

Thanks Marcia for letting me come and take pictures and
letting everyone see how talented you and your
staff are.
I'm have no doubt all your customers will follow you to
 your new location.

Can't wait to see it!
