A Gift and a Giveaway

Valentines Day is only 2 days away.
Are you ready???
Me neither but that’s ok it will be wonderful because I will be spending it
with my friends at Evi’s houses.
You may remember me talking about it
I missed it last year because of jury duty and Laura wasn’t able to be there either.
Laura has been in Florida but is coming home earlier then planned so….
YAY she’ll be there too.

With the holiday of Love just around the corner
I wanted to share with you one of my dearest friends
We met quite early in our blogging life. I immediately liked her and
we have grown closer throughout the years….gosh how long has it been?
Feels like I’ve known her all my life.
That’s a good feeling.
To think, we have never met face to face or talked on the phone but there isn’t a
day that I don’t think of her.
We may write everyday, sometimes not for weeks or months but she knows how much she means to me.
That’s when you know you have a good friend….you can catch up right where you left off  like
no time has passed.

cover

Last month I received from Julie this sweetest little box.
It must have been made for someone dear.
It looks handmade.
A picture of a little girl holding an umbrella, though maybe more to
shade oneself from the sun then protect from the rain.
It comes from a brocante in France.

Inside a small delicate piece of lace and sewing needle.

I started playing around with some of my own sewing goods.
A small spool of thread, buttons, and sequined applique that
I bought at the flea market not too long ago.
On the other side of the cover a lovely print of a
 dove and  French saying.
I still speak some French but
my French reading shhhhheee….
how you say...?
not so good.

so Google came in to help.

WHITE DOVE, UNDER YOUR WING BRING TO THOSE
WHO HAVE MORE
FAITH, HOPE,
CHARITY AND SUBLIME VIRTUES.

isn’t that wonderful?
I wonder if it’s a common saying in France?
maybe we in the US should borrow it.

Thank you Julie I will treasure it forever!!!!
So in the same spirit of giving and to thank all of you that
come here and leave comments of encouragement and love,
I would like to have another giveaway.

The last one was so much fun.

Moonstruck

Well, I hadn't intended on posting til George asked me to
go see the full moon tonight.
Alone!
What's up with that?
I guess the romance is out the window this time of year!
ha!
That's ok it gave me a chance to attempt to photograph it.
Of course it looked nothing like these colors.
A little creative license.
I love seeing the greenhouses at night.
Like big glowing ...well whatevers????
I won't even tell you what George calls them:))

I wish I could take pictures of the moon like my friend Julie.
She never misses an opportunity to show us the full moon and her love of it.
La bella luna as she likes to call it.
I can't look at the moon now without think of her
.... and the movie

Moonstruck.

Well seems like I can't do a post without including a cat or two.
You've met Shaggy before. He's getting ready to take a little nap on one
of the numerous piles of row cover we seem to have to use during the spring.
It's going to get close to freezing tonight and tomorrow.

You may have noticed this in the background. I bought this on our trip to
Madison Bouckville with the girls last Fall.
and no I still haven't figured out what to really do with it.

Seems like it must have been electrified once but it'll have to go to a lamp guy to be done safely.

I sort of like just the way it is but maybe you have an idea?

Normally I wouldn't show you this sort of image with ugly boxes in the background but hey it's
"reality" and my sweet baby girl Brianna is in the picture.
She now is our oldest kitty. She's looks so sad in this picture.
We've been having problems getting her to eat and have
to sit with her twice a day to get her to eat anything.

The vet had to remove some teeth but her gums still bother her.
She's getting better so we're hopeful she'll be back to normal soon.

ok too sad...
need to change the subject!

the other reality is
yes... planting lots of cuttings.
That's getting better too
and we're almost done!

YAAAAA!!!!

Look at the roots on these guys! I think they really need planting!
Ok got to get back to work.

More to do!

One more thing.
Thank you for the kind comments in the
last month. I've been slow in getting back
to visit everyone.
You are always in my thoughts and in my heart!

Happy Spring!

Great Get Together

The other night we were invited over to a friends house for fish and chips take out and a movie. What could be more relaxing and unpretentious then that. Just right up my alley after a long day at work. Well everyday is a day at work. Haven't had a day off since I don't know when. Well, not to get into all that.

We went home to clean up and noticed my husband putting on one of his work shirts with our logo. Are you kidding??? Why would you wear that? Huuuhhh..... So in I went into his little side of the closet and pulled out this Hawaiian shirt. I got it for him at Good Will for $5 I think. Nothings too good for my man!

I think nothing says Good Times like an Hawaiian shirt. Right? Puts everyone in the right mood.
Then he put on the stone pendant just to give him more of the beach boy/hippy look. No more long hair.... that would have finished off the look

.....too bad

......cut that off 2 weeks ago.

We brought flowers from the garden Lovely backyard. Not sure why we didn't sit outside. But I think it's rude to tell the hostess where we'll be sitting tonight.

Ate yummy greasy fried food with lots of tartar sauce.

Then the thing we were all waiting for ~ the cupcakes from NYC that our hostess just brought back.

Juicy Queen Anne's cherries just to have something more healthy. As a kid I would look for the double cherries still on their stems so I could wear them over my ears so they'd look like dangling earrings. I wanted to try them on that night but thought better of it. Didn't want them thinking I was weird. I guess I'm not worried you will. LOL
Doesn't this Blue and White granite ware colander look just perfect with the color of these cherries...... so nostalgic like grandma kitchen would have had. Our hostess piled them high in this little ramekin.....cute but

now imagine if she had these wonderful large granite ware bowls to put them in like these!!! to match her colander?

SOOOoooo much better!!!!

Guess what?

YOU can win these on Joan's @ anything goes here) giveaway!!!

But even if you don't need these you should still go visit. She has the most extensive collection of antiques and fun finds. She's always got something to teach us, the funniest wit and that great Midwestern hospitality.

Go and tell her I said Hi!!!!

Oh and I can't forget to thank Julie of Julie Being Ruby for her tutorial on putting up larger pics. So sweet of her to help a fellow blogger out. She's so generous with her time. She has such a beautiful blog and the best stories. She'll make you feel right at home.

Not sure how these pictures will turn out til I hit the publish button. Forgive me if they come out fuzzy....cuz they look a little fuzzy now.
Have a good night,
Carole
