March marchs on!

The weather of late has been less then ideal.
I think payback for the great weather we had the week before!

Even me who never minds the rain is saying enough
Thank you!

The worse is not the rain but the wind. Saturday was the worst.
60-70 mile an hour winds and gusts.

If any of you have ever been in a greenhouse when it's raining ....well that is a
walk in the park
compared to how it sounds when the
wind is blowing hard.
Only 2 thin sheets of plastic between you and the elements.

The sound can be like a freight train.

(Hosta and Algeria Ivy)

Most of the time it's not that unnerving
but a little voice kept saying to me

" you should have replaced the plastic on the greenhouses last year"
Ugghhh!!!
I know, I know!
I'll cross my fingers and hope we won't blow away.

I stood there watching the lights and metal purlins sway back and
forth.....the real bones of structure. The cracking sound of the layers of plastic hitting each other was deafening. At times I thought how
is it that this structure is still standing???
Of course I still stayed in there most of the day.
Boy, was I happy we had no deliveries scheduled.

(Clivia)

Years ago when we first started this business, when we had a
hurricanes we would come down and spend most of the night
just sitting in the greenhouses just in case something happened.

(Osteospermum)

It seems so silly now. What were we going to do? Mother nature was going to do what
she wanted and we had no power over her.
We once did lose a house in a hurricane.
It was in the process of being finished. The sides still hadn't been
secured all the way.

The wind just came in and pulled the piping right out like toothpicks.

If we had just slit the plastic off it would have done less damage.

The good thing is that there were no plants inside unlike what could have happened
last weekend.

We were very lucky and not even lose power.
Many areas around us did and suffered from flooding.

in a chicken feeder

Before we know it Spring will be here.
No, this picture is from last year.
It's still pretty gray outside and nothing green
except for the Leprechauns lerking about:))

I can't believe that St Patricks day is Wednesday and our anniversary
the day after!
I guess we'll have to go out for green beer:))
                                                         Not for our anniversary though...
maybe champagne!!!
What do you do for St. Patty's
do you go out and kick up your knickers??
Remember everyone is Irish on St Patricks Day!
Have Fun!!!

Love your photos today... and your artistic representations look fantastic where else would you put Hens and chickens but in a chicken feeder? hehe and the Cape Daisy is so pretty .. a happy flower to remind you of spring on it's way.

Carole,

You are so brave! I would have been cowering under the covers. Oh that's right..I WAS under the covers, trying to drown out our horrible winds. Was the entire country under wind warnings? Nothing like you poor guys had though. SO happy everything survived, esp you!

What do the kitties think of the storms?

Happy Anniversary dear friend.

The photos are so lovely- you've been playing haven't you. :-)

Happy Anniversary and St. Patrick's day, Carole.
I so wished that we could have some of your rain, still have not had any but a few spits, when I went for my walk ~ enough to get my hair wet.
Your photos are wonderful.

Do have a happy day on the 17/18 and I will raise a glass for your anniversary. Many blessings.

Hugs
Carolyn

Your weather sounds like Texas weather...feast or famine.
With a maiden name of Callahan...you better believe I celebrate the wearing of the green!

Hi Carole!
I heard of the heavy storms you had in the north east US in our news here in Germany and about the loosing of power and all so I'm very happy to see that nothing has happened to you and your belongings! I can imagine how frigthening it must be and that horrible sound in the green house! Let's just hope we're through now with all the bad weather and that Spring will start with full force this week!
Warmest wishes sends you
Carol, xoxo

Hi Carole,
First of all, I wish you and George a wonderful day on wednesday....definitely get the champagne out !! We don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day much here, apart from the Irish living in England, of course, so, have a green beer on me !!....or two !!
Your photographs are amazing. I love that pale, grainy quality you've got..... and, I agree with Gigi. Your writing was brilliant. I thought that I was reading a book. It was really descriptive. I felt as if I was there with you in the wind and rain. I really hope that the weather calms down a bit for you. We have been having blue skies and sunshine but, it's still very cold, which is not good for us, as our boiler stopped working on Saturday and, when the plumber came round, he condemmed it !!!! It was so old. we were lucky that it lasted this long !! We now have to have a new boiler, so will have to wait a while for that which means no central heating.
Sorry Carole. I've rambled on. I should have told you all of that in an email !!
Here's to sunnier, warmer days.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CAROLE & GEORGE !! XXXX

Hi Carole, Happy St. Patrick's Day! We don't celebrate that in Germany since there are not so many Irish people living over here.
I'm glad the storms didn't do too much damage at your greenhouse and you didn't loose power.
Have a wonderful anniversary on Thursday!!!
Hugs,
Julia

GORGEOUS PICTURES, CAROLE. I USED TO WORK IN A GREENHOUSE SO I COULD REALLY RELATE TO THAT EXPERIENCE YOU HAD WITH THE WIND AND RAIN.

I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT, FOR SOME REASON, IT'S VERY DIFFICULT SOMETIMES, TO GET YOUR BLOG TO DOWNLOAD ON MY COMPUTER. TODAY IT TOOK A LONG TIME, BUT AT LEAST I WAS ABLE TO READ YOUR LATEST BLOGS AND I REALLY ENJOYED CATCHING UP1
