Do you love Lemons as much as I do?
I love the way they look, the way they smell
and of course the way they taste.
Every year we sell lemon tree plants…
mostly Meyer lemon….they have the sweetest and best taste and the thinnest skin.
I’m sure the skin has little to do with the taste but I’m sure the shipping of them does.
You often find the thick skinned ones in grocery stores in
areas of the country that are too cold to grow them natively.
Lucky southerners.
But don’t get me wrong I’m a true blue New Englander and enjoy our
4 distinct seasons.
and love being a Connecticuter!!! (that’s not even a word)
Every year we’ve sold out of them…but not this past year.
That’s ok …….more for us to enjoy throughout the Winter months.
They keep so well on the bush.
George had taken some lemons home in late November but as we were so busy during the holiday
season they dried out…..
like this.
They look like walnuts now.
Cute, but not too juicy.
Determined to not let that happen again I’ve been on the prowl for lemon recipes.
I promised our host and hostess tonight
that George would make dessert.
He’s the baker and the sweet tooth in this family….or yeah so is Charlotte and Nigella!
but no they don’t bake…
too bad.
So whataya think??
Coconut Cloud Cake sounds like the perfect dessert to make.
Lemon Curd
the key ingredient to why we should make this.
and OMG my favorite
Fluffy Meringue Frosting!!!!!!
some of you already know my obsession with Marshmallow fluff!
I thought George was kidding me that he found a 6 minute version
of 7 minute frosting!
it’s like a silly joke between us.
“It would be the perfect frosting if only
it was done in 6 minutes.”
We laugh about the silliest stuff…..
and I love that we have things only WE would find funny.
It’s what keeps us sane sometimes.
Have you ever seen the movie
Of course you have!
Remember the scene with the hitchhiker.
and his invention of the 7 minute abs?
instead of 8 minute abs.
Tried finding it on YOU tube but it’s no longer available.
Darn!
Ok what does this have to do with
New Years????
hum?? not sure?
In the 2011
when life gives you lemons make lemonade…...
or better yet Lemon Coconut Cake?
or better yet Lemon Coconut Cake?
Life is full of sour and sweet people
pucker up and kiss the sour ones Good bye?
( Well no, but that one might be a good idea)
My wish to you is when things
get hard, the working hours are long, and the goals too far out of reach
as it well may be in
2011 .
Keep your sense of humor.
Get silly and have fun with your friends and the ones you love .
Laugh until your cheeks hurt!
Laughter
is what I wish for all of you!!!!
because without that,
no money, or “things”, or promotions or awards
really matter!
Happy NEW YEAR!!!!! 6

Let's raise our Lemon-cellos in a toast to the new year and everything you just said! (BTW...my favorite quote from "Friends" is when Phoebe says she's very bendy!)
Love lemons and they ARE the fountain of youth. Everything about them just sings vitality.
Hope you have a wonderful New Year's eve and I'll be talking at ya next year!

I just bought lemon curd at Trader Joes on Monday... and that cake sounds yummy, now I have to find someone in this house to bake it because I have blogs to catch up on! Have a fabulous new year and thanks for great advice!! Theresa xoxo
Yes, I love all Citrus fruits, we planted several Citrus trees but alas, our Lemon Tree did not thrive so we will have to replace it... too hot I suspect since we had a brutal Summer and it was a newly planted Tree. Your Lemon recipes sound delicious.
Happy New Year... Dawn... The Bohemian

I love lemons too!
Carole- this is why I love your blog! How precious is this post! When life gives you lemons---! Only you would find a way to turn this into a thought provoking moral upon which to pattern our lives! Bravo!! I have absolutely loved this- and that lemon cake looks fabulous. I have a myer lemon tree- and when I am blessed with fruits- I treasure them!
Happy New Year Carole- I am looking forward to another year of your beautiful photos, fascinating stories, and your amazing sense of creativity.

It's such a shame that no citrus fruits grow in Germany. I like lemons but oranges are my favorites. I just love the taste and the smell, not so much the color, LOL. Chocolate with orange taste or orange scented body lotion, mhhhh YUMMY!
Happy New Year, dear sweet Carole! Have a wonderful 2011 filled with good health and happiness!!!
Hugs to you,
Julia
Happy New Year Carole ~ thank goodness your post made me laugh or I would have gained weight looking at all those yummy recipes!
HAPPY NEW YEAR CAROLE & GEORGE and all the furry kids too!!! Yup!! I love my "lemons" too. Not up to baking anything as of yet for the next month though:) This song is so much fun I have to keep your page up for awhile. Enjoy the calm my friend. Hugs ~ Dee
Dear Carole,
I just now need to know what has happened to all of the surplus lemons ?!! haha It all sounds delicious and, as I am writing this after the event, I hope that your hosts loved the Chocoflan Cake.
Wishing you and George a wonderful 2011, filled with joy, happiness, lots of laughter and many special moments. Thanks for all of your lovely comments, emails and support throughout 2010 and here's to lots more blogging friendship (and laughter) in 2011. With much love. XXXX
Hello Carole
I enjoy your sense of humor and can just imagine the fun you must be having in your kitchen.(and under the lemon trees..and everywhere!
those lemons are so beautiful they almost look unreal- now they would def have been on my garden to- do- list if we lived in your area.
have a lovely week
