Scared of the Salon

What is it about going to get my hair cut
that scares me so much???

It should be painless.
Right?
imagesCA1G57SM
I’m not only getting it cut but
colored, highlighted, tinted....
whatever they call it.
See I have no idea about this stuff.
I started having "issues" years ago and haven't been
in so many years.

I knew the time was coming when I had to have a professional figure out
what to do with this mess on my head……
called my hair, my locks…my mane
….my disaster!

But where to go??
It wasn’t until my friend Gretchen got a compliment while in my shop
from a complete stranger.
Who said…and I quote.
“You have the best hair….it’s like young girl hair”
meaning it looked fresh, clean and full of LIFE!!!
and it did and especially the color.

Like this girl!!!
this one is my favorite !!!
so of course I found out where she was going to have it done.
I was determined to have a new DO before our trip to NYC coming up soon.
Really need to not look like a country girl anymore.
I just hope I don’t come out looking like this
teens-hair-styles
or this

You might remember the last time I cut my hair
my inspiration was this
sweet girl.
And when I say cut my hair….I mean I cut it myself.
hair

I did like it even when everyone called me “Butch” for a good month or two.
By everyone I mean my hubby and his best friend….
but I have thick skin so I didn’t care.
What do they know about hair.

Though most people would say "you cut your hair"
Not, oh I like your haircut. Big difference!

This time I want a little more length.

Ok all very pretty but too long for me. Mines only chin length now.

Cute too,  but come on this is Sharon Stone….she’d look gorgeous with Pebbles hair.

Ok I thought I’d have a little fun and show you what my hair looked
like back in the Fall

goldie daughter

Don’t I look a lot like Kate Hudson??? I know it’s uncanny!
HAHAHAHA

Or maybe I look more like
Reese Witherspoon????

Hi Carole, We could be sisters :-). Going to a hair dresser is such No fun that I try to avoid it as long as possible too. I just don't like sitting there and having someone fumble around on my head. Some years ago I went to a salon where I at least enjoyed the great head massages they gave. After we moved I didn't find a comparable hair stylist and so I didn't have my hair cut very often ever since. I really should go to get the split ends cut but I'm still putting it off.
Good luck for your appointment, girl :-)!
xoxo,
Julia

Oh Carole,
You have hit a nerve with me on this one !! I have had long straight hair all of my life apart from when I was about 10 when my mum took me to the hairdressers and they chopped my pony tail off !!!! My mum thought that, if I had it cut short, it would be curly but, no.....still dead straight. My dad was really cross 'cos he liked my long hair. Whether it was the trauma of that visit to the hairdresser but, I virtually need a psychiatrist to come with me when I have my hair trimmed.....trimmed being the operative word !!!!
.....it's also funny that I went yesterday to have my highlights done and a bit taken off of the ends.
I'm sure that you will be pleased with the results when you go today. Try to enjoy the experience and please reveal the 'new you' even if you photoshop it !!!!

Oh I hope you have a wonderful time. And that the hairdresser that you get is fabulous. I am always nervous too!! I go to the same hairdresser and she always cuts too short! Sigh!!!! But I can fix it...so I continue to go. I figure I am training her!! Ha!!

So are you going to that fancy-shmancy salon? I went to one once and left thinking I had the worst haircut ever! Just my luck ; )

I have to say, I absolutely LOVE having my haircut! For years I've been going to the same woman who works at the JCPenneys salon. Funny thing is, through the years I've referred a few other people to her and they weren't happy at all! LOL!

Right now my hair is super short (think Halle Berry), and I love it! Best of luck with your new do! Will we see a picture???

I want to see the "young" hair and I want to know how she keeps it so! Growing up the g'daughter of a hairdresser, you can just imagine the things that got done to my hair. When I was old enough to just say no, I started letting it grow and never looked back. I have to admit, I'm creeping into CrystalGayleLand and need a good shearing, but I have the same fears!
Finding a good salonist is like finding a good man...few and far between! But hey...you found one, so maybe a hairstylist is possible too. Remember...the secret is in the cut that works with your hair...not Reese's!
You know I'm yankin' your chain doncha? Whatever you decide...you'll look beautiful!

Have a great time being pampered! I love the one you picked too and need to show it to my daughter, so she can do mine that color! I am lucky enough not to have to leave home for her to give me a cut or color... maybe it's the winter blah because I had her cut quite a bit off of mine and give me a layered bob that I can't even pull back into a pony! I haven't had it this short in a very long time, did you hear me say NOT EVEN A PONY??? what will I do when I drive Max to school with my bedhead now? Have lots of fun and please show us your beautiful self! Theresa xoxo

I totally understand the dilema. Take a photo with you and tell them Exactly what You want. Every time I go to get mine done my husband walks in slowly, like is it safe! Mine has been long and very short. Very blonde to brown, and multi colored. Like your photos. judy

Love your post. When you show the last pictures of yourself with other faces...I am immediately noticing the white star on the wall and the purse hanging from the shelf and then the face mask plaque...all of the white pieces are so beautiful.
Pamper yourself at the salon!

I'm terrified of the salon and I'm a hair dresser! I have crazy thick hair and it's a pain to do anything with! I wait till my hair looks so bad I just have to go! Good luck! Show us the results!

I liked the same one that you do. Good luck! I bet you will love it. My hair dresser always says that you know you have a good haircut when it just falls into place, even when you haven't "fixed" it. Boy do I need a hair cut!

I just had my hair cut a few weeks ago from below my shoulders to very short. I went in with a photo of Lisa Rinna...I got her hair cut, sort of but still look like me so it didn't quite work. Now that it has grown out a bit I like it! My husband, not so much, I got the "butch" comments too!

Thank you for sending my JDL so quickly...came in handy with having bad weather and being under the weather!

Ah, the dreaded haircut! Even those of us who love going in can come out with a bad one, once in a while...I've had two in the past 3 months (OK, I was a glutton and went back to give her a "second chance"). I knew I was in trouble when she started telling me that she had just gotten off the phone with the bank before I came in, and was losing her rental property (not her own residence, but an investment) to a bad loan!

I'm sure you will come out just wonderful - can't wait to see the new you! Happy Thursday - Tanya

Hi Carole-LOL I'm just the opposite-I LOVE to get my haircut. It's a big joke around here because I'm always going to the salon.
I vote for the second haircut in the post (girl with long earrings) I LOVE that one!
good luck-just relax and enjoy it and I'm sure you will look beautiful!

Wonder what you did end up with...we'll see at our get-together!
Many hugs and OOOOO,

PS. Got the mag..thank you so much...can't decide if I liked it a lot, but still would not want to miss one!

You have Hair Cut Panic Disorder. Okay I made that up. I hope you are well now and happy with it today. Color is scary but can be fixed always. ♥O

Ha, How did your hair turn out? I just walked in the door from a all morning appointment! I have had my hair colored by the same gal for the last 10 years but a new gal cut it today. I am always looking for a new cut - my kids laugh when they look at pictures... they say oh ya, that was moms red phase or remember that hair do and then they all crack up. I know some girls that have the same hair cut that they had in high school... I hate going to the hairdressers! You would think I would get smart and quit going! And not only that... why is it when you get an awful cut it goes directly to the old emotions, I can cry when my hair is cut but not when the world is crashing down around me... go figure! I don't blame you sista!
Hope you're not crying :)
Blessings

OK, ready to laugh? Tonight when I got home from work my face was red and hot. I had a little trouble breathing and U guessed it ---I had a hair cut apt. in 2 hours. The closer it got to leave the more I was sure my face was bigger than normal and my face was OH SOOOOOOOO HOT. At a hour before the apt. I called and cancelled. Extreme, maybe, but who cares. I am going to knit this Friday evening. No hair cut this week. Sure hope my hairdresser of the last 30 years does not read this. LOL, Jan. Thanks for stopping by dreamchallenge.

Do any of us ever really feel confident about our looks? As I become older- I find that to be even more true. Listen to your friends- you are truly beautiful- your new "do" will be fabulous- be brave!
