Better Ct.

Last Wednesday was a good example of how
low expectations can sometimes surprise you.
Our friends had planned a day of going to see the taping
of a local show
called Better Ct. It’s a News variety show( I guess that’s what you’d call it)
You know a little bit of news, some guests from the area, local stuff.
…but no singing or dancing : )
I’m sure you have similar shows in your area.
I had seen the show before but since it’s on at 3 in the afternoon it wasn’t too often.
Now if you had asked me to go see a Martha Stewart show or David Letterman I couldn’t
get my coat on fast enough.

The good part was that there was food dangled as the carrot as we were
going to a Tapas restaurant in West Hartford afterwards.

Yeah, I liked that.

flowers

We met our friends at their house for breakfast including fresh fruit, yogurt and muffins.
Yum more food …….can you tell I’ve been on a diet?
I was good and only had fruit and yogurt…
ok I had toast too.

I refuse to give up bread…..it would be very unfrench of me.

water

We were all ready for our drive to Hartford with
 our bottles of water.
Do you see George’s orange sweater???
all wrinkly.  I told him it was too wrinkled but he wanted
to wear it…
so what am I going to do? iron it?
I don’t think so.
We have 4 irons and I try to avoid it at all cost.
yup 4 I just discovered more in our kitchen pantry.
More on that later.

Do you think they’re sweaters are subtle enough????
I was wearing brown.

Better CT _35Jan 2012

There they are…..Scot Haney and Kara Sundlun.
Sorry the photo is so blurry. They couldn’t have been more gracious and friendly.
They don’t get a big audience ….I think there were about 15 ? but it made it very nice to be
right there so close and see how it’s done.

Kara going over her notes.

Scot getting ready. I forgot to say that he also does the weather for channel 3 CBS
and is great at it. I’m a channel 4 NBC girl but I love watching Scot doing his thing.
He brings a lot of personality to his job.
His nickname is “Zany” Scot Haney!

Better CT _45Jan 2012

Well they sat down and suddenly they were on.  He was so silly from the start I thought
they were just goofing around. Nope that’s the show.
She was teasing him for having no attention span.
Flash something shiny or new in front of him and he’s off on that.

I can relate!

models

They had a few different guest on, one of which was a fashion modeling agency
who brought in some of her girls.
Gosh were they tall and the girl on the left had the prettiest hair…..and so straight
and no split ends.
Better CT _63Jan 2012

Then came the recipe of the day….which we were warned by the camera crew was not to be eaten.
I guess chefs they are not.
That day was cake in a mug…..different recipe then the one I have tried.
The crew turned out to be right even Kara and Scot weren’t
loving it.

Better CT _27Jan 2012

After the cake fiasco they had IKEA there featuring a man cave for the up coming Super bowl.
Gosh when is super bowl?
I’m more a Puppy Bowl watcher.
I could watch that everyday…..all day :)

Better CT _60Jan 2012

Kara enjoying the snacks they brought.

chip

Which they later shared with all of us.

Better CT _69Jan 2012

I was so happy I had gone. The time just flew. I thought there might
be a lot of waiting time between segments but
 it moved along quickly.
They have great chemistry together and just are so natural
with each other.

Ok I’m now a FAN

Better CT _103Jan 2012

As planned we went to West Hartford.
It was such a gorgeous day.
We’ve had so much rain lately.

CHEERS

We went to Barcelona for lunch
and after sampling a few delicious tapas we had
your own plates too.

Did I mention I’m on a diet?
Yeah, well the diet is on now.

plate
It was so worth going off my diet for.
It looks like a burger but it’s a grilled veggie sandwich with
Portabella Mushroom, Red Peppers, Squash,
Spinach, Feta Cheese, Chickpea Puree.

I saved half for dinner.
Even great eaten cold.

We rushed back home (well our friends house) to watch the show that comes on at 3.
Slatey watched with us.
My friend Joanne hoped we might be on TV since there was a cameraman  photographing us almost the whole time.

I was thankful we weren’t : )

Have you ever been on TV?

How fun for you, Carole!!! We have a local show like that with 2 news gals as hosts. Every story is about local places and things to do. Fun show! I have been on TV a lonnnnnng time ago. I was interviewed when I was working at the high school and we were having a "Health Improvement" Staff Day. We were being tested on the treadmill, situps, pushups, etc. by the Health Department. The local news guys were there interviewing some of us. It was a fun day! :)

Hi Carole, It sounds like you had a fun day in the film-studio and afterwards. The mushroom sandwich looks delicious. I know, I should be on a diet, sigh.
Scarlett is such a cutie. Hopefully she'll find a wonderful new home. I bet you had been thinking about adopting her, didn't you?
Have a great Sunday, dear friend!

I love getting to go on adventures...even cyber ones!
This was such a fun post and the colors are fantastic...including George's sweater. Do you think that maybe that's why y'all weren't shown on the program...a little too bright and might steal the hosts thunder?
Speaking of hosts...Zany Scot looks like he's fixing to dive into his own puppy bowl in that one photo...love a "squirrel" man!

I probably would have balked at going too, but sometimes things turn out much better than you anticipate! Glad that was the case : )

How is Bella? That's the kitty that was missing, right?

What a fun outing and everyone in those colored sweaters. That was very funny. Looked like good comfort food to wrap it all up.

Carole - this looks like such a fun time - the pictures are fabulous - I can see the chemistry in those two - I just bet you had a wonderful day there.

A tapas restaurant would be my choice too! I love grilled veggies - that would be exactly what I would have had - and yes, my diet continues as well. What does weight watchers say - "its a way of life not a diet~" I count my points every day and I love it - really I do.

Thank you for posting my contest on your sidebar - Love you for that!

The kitty is gorgeous - I have had a kitty that looked like her before. If I was closer she would be mine. Now I am going to worry about her - please let me know when she gets a home. Is she yours or from a shelter? I love her~~

What fun you had! And George's sweater was so orange, I thought there was a goldfish in that water bottle on the left! It's interesting seeing something like that taped, huh? A friend drug me to a Wheel of Fortune taping in Vegas - I was shocked that they even break for commercials, instead of just editing them in!

Dinner looked wonderful - I'm dieting with you, girl! Happy Sunday - Happy Week! Tanya

I once volunteered for a local cable show. Before you could say 'Take One' the producer had quit and I became the producer and host. Great Fun. The show was about the restoration of a historic home in Coral Gables. Best, Lisa ladolcevilla.net

It sounds so fun Carole. I haven't ever watched a live show before, but now given the opportunity I probably would after your post. Gosh the food looks so good! Can you tell I'm on a diet too :) You are going to think I'm crazy, but I rarely ever eat bread. Just never been a big bread eater since I quit making my own years ago. BUT, when I saw your plate---guess what?---now I want a sandwich soooo bad!
I have been on TV once when I was serving on an Idaho council and had to explain life with an Angelman child. It was scary..my mouth has never been so dry!!!
have an awesome week.
hugs from me...

Isn't that often the way!
When you're least expecting it, an outing can be soo fun!

Oh no I'm on a diet too - and I'm off out to lunch today... no idea what will be on the menu - I'll prob have to skip dinner tonight tho as my control levels aren't too high today!!!

The food looks wonderful and I am getting hungry...

Carole, this was such a fun post to read ! I can relate to the wrinkled sweater....I have taken a hair blower to my hubby's sweater on the way out the door! The heat from the blower works wonders! I was on TV with my garden, and yes terrifying and hard to maintain your normal composure, and act normal...I too love bread and could never give it up I'm afraid...N.xo

WOW! What a fun afternoon! The food would have sold me on the deal too ;) And I *should* be on a diet but things like this outing would get in the way ;) Anyway, I'm glad you went and that you took the time to take pictures - it was like being there. Well almost....no food......although I think my frozen pizza is almost done.

Yes, on TV once regarding an abused cat I was fostering. I refused to watch it on TV because I simply knew I wouldn't like what I saw LOL

Hope you have a great week!

That looks like it was so much fun! Scott Haney is a riot. A few years ago he helped a non-profit I used to work for with a fund raiser. He went above and beyond the call of duty.

What a fun day! I worked at a tv station while in college answering the phone in the news room. It was a fun job! The news people were a hoot! Shorts and flipflops on under the desk and jacket and tie above the desk!

Hi Carole,

Looks like you had a fun day out and I enjoyed seeing your photographs.
The food looks delicious and I wish you much luck with your diet.
I was on TV when I was about 20, briefly for my job when I worked as a training instructor, for the Telephone Exchange. It was very nerve-racking and scary.

Happy Friday
Hugs
