Barn Love

Is there anything more beautiful then an old barn????

I knew you'd say that so

here are a few to enjoy.

This is one near where we live and some of you might

remember me showing this

one before during a snow storm last Winter.

The biggest one we had that year.

We really didn't have that bad a winter...just more snow then normal.

Some parts of the country really saw some incredibly cold temperatures and

some saw the "white stuff" for the first time in a long time.

I'm getting a little off subject huh????

That's so unlike me:))

This one isn't old but it sure is pretty!!

Oh of course it's prestine....it's in the town of Guilford voted most

picturesque town on New England

by some magazine????

With a few barns come a few chickens,

These are George's uncle Ledge's chickens who lives across the street from

our greenhouses.

They used to wonder across to our side years ago but not so much anymore.

Just as well they don't cross the road.

Too dangerous for them....crazy drivers on the road!

so we go visit them instead.

This was barn we saw when we went to Madison Bouckville last year when

we stayed with Laura at her fabulous lakehouse last Fall.
Boy talk about farm country.

There were barns everywhere but we were focused on

JUNKING!!!

The Tin Man Cometh

The Tin Man and his Misses are what greeted you at the entrance of this eclectic booth. I can just picture them on a bench in a garden. The wheel in the back is especially nice with all the scrolly detail. Not sure how it was used....seems too ornate to have been used as a wheel.

One of my favorite things to look for is metal and wire pieces so that's what this post is all about

at Madison-Bouckville in Upstate New York.

This was a dealer that specialized in all things metal and wire. Laura pointed this booth out to me to go check out while she rested in the shade with Deanna for a bit.

Isn't this one gorgeous....what I assume is a flower frog but it could have just been an ornate piece off something else.

Repurposed art ......LOVE that!!!

A little wire cage....that I should have bought now that I'm seeing it again.

He did have some really old and unique pieces.

These 2 plates being some of best ones....well that I liked.

This was a tin holder that I would guess is an ice cream cone holder. Some of you antique dealers would probably recognize it as something else. Care to take a guess????

Wouldn't it be fun to use at a kids Birthday Party???

An old tin colander.

Metal curtain tiebacks. I'd use them for something else. The glass roses are what makes these unique.

Another metal lantern piece that you could use inside or out. I wonder where a piece that big originally came from. A big old estate perhaps?

Cool metal sphere for the garden.

Ah and here we are....the place where Paula feel in love with Matilda. It wasn't til after I took this picture that she came back to buy her. I haven't seen it set up at her house yet but knowing Paula she's dressed her perfectly with all the right accoutrement!!!

And here's my waltzing Matilda......head first in the basket. I need to find a name for her. Any ideas???

Deanna bought her for me knowing I'd been looking for one. Someone else was thinking of buying her so she had to act fast. The price was good so I was thrilled. I plan on staining the fabric brown or I may recover her with fabric.

The wire bird cage was a steal at $25.....I thought.

More metal goodies that Paula scored on. The metal bins were part of a set that Laura and her split up.

That's what's fun about shopping with friends. You can have someone else looking out for what you're hunting for and when you find it you can share it!!!

Boy I think it's been awhile since I've shown any flowers....well that's what happens in late August. We get apathetic about what we were so excited for just a few months ago.

I do have a nursery open house to go to this Wednesday so maybe then I'll WOW you with flora and fauna.

A little Rachel at M.B.

I'm not sure when Rachel Ashwell came on the decorating scene but it has definitely not gone away and here at the Madison Bouckville Show it was front and center. This was one of the first booths we saw perfectly positioned for visibility along the main road.

I instantly liked it. Now my tastes have varied a bit from all the pink. But how does a girl not like some pink......well there are some out there. Even a few good friends of mine do not like pink at all, ......but they are in the minority.

This is the lovely owner of this booth. Erica Erhardt of Au Ciel Antique Studio in Bridgeport, Ct. Doesn't see look like her booth??? Some of her most famous customer have been the one and only Rachel Ashwell. I'd hoped Erica would have a website to show you but when I googled her it did say something about her on Rachel Ashwells blog on the google search board but nothing on the actual blog post......drats!!!! just that Rachel had been to the Brimfield Antique Show in July 09.

I really loved this candelabra and though she was willing to give me a better price we had just gotten there and I couldn't just jump on the first thing I liked...... or could I ???? no,no,no!!!

Fantastic corner cabinet are a decent price.

I liked this little shelf but it was sold, but that's ok I didn't have a spot picked out where it would go.

Now don't forget Christmas is just around the corner and you can shop for Christmas all year long I think.

The glass is so paper thin it makes you wonder how they've survived so long. When I break one I can't stand to throw it out so I save them to add little pieces to projects and tuck flowers around them to hide the edges.

This is one of the 2 boxes filled with vintage millinery.

These were a set of tiles that came with more pieces that Deanna found...... they would have been perfect in her home. One of the tiles was miss marked $12 but of course they were much more then that. The owner of these exquisite tiles said that most people make frames for them and hang them on the wall. They came from an old fireplace surround.

This booth was set up very well too with a feminine touch and attention to detail.I thought of getting this window. Love the leaded glass but what bothered me is that they had painted over the chipped paint. Possibly it was a bad color and they needed to. But it gave it too much of a new look.
Now that I look at this picture again it reminds me that I was going to buy that stool though I really didn't need it.......I have so many. I think that was when we met back up after being separated for a little while. Thank goodness for cell phones. How did we ever dare get separated or lost before we had those.

It was lunch time and we went and got a bite to eat.

never saw that saying before!!!! maybe that'll be my new mantra.

Back from Madison- Bouckville Antique Show

Well it's been a few days since I've written. A wonderful few days to relax and get together with friends but in the back of my mind you all were still there. Thank you for all the kind comments the last week. I've loved hearing from old friends and from new ones too.
I'll get to visiting you soon I hope. On the 100th post I'll be announcing the winner of the Give Away and so if you still want to enter just scroll down below and comment on the 100th post give away. This should be post 98th...I think?

Camp Merryland

How could you not have fun in a place named like that???? or as Deanna asked "has anyone not been Merry in Camp Merryland"???

It right away set the mood.

The cottages are sweet with a lovely sense of nostalgia that immediately relaxes you and makes you feel that you've been there before......or maybe just wished you had.
When we arrived Laura welcomed us with big hugs and helped us get settled in. She was humble about her getaway home in the Adirondacks which is all about comfort, spending time with family and friends and of course her amazing collections. She of course did not disappoint with her attention to detail and presentation. We all squealed with joy as we walked from room to room and were thrilled at the bedrooms we were assigned to sleep in. I took a few photos but decided this home was Laura's work of art and should be left up to her to share.
Let me just say that it was every bit Laura but even more beautiful in person then on her blog.

After dinner we took the short walk down to the lake. Neighbors from their porches waved to us as we passed by. Laura's family has been coming there for generations and some of them have known her since she was a little girl.

The lake was so still and the air was cool and you could see patches of fog in the rolling hills across the pond. I thought we are going to sleep well that night....

and we did!!!!

The next morning we got up at the crack of dawn and drove the 1 1/2 to the antique show.
Along the way going by an array of large farms with fields of hay that had just been baled. Though I never got any pictures of it. If I had stopped I would have never wanted to leave I was so taken by the simplicity and beauty of it all.

We were finally here ~1000 dealers to visit.

America....

the land of the free and the brave and the lover of antiques and junk.

The dealers work hard to make their booths attractive and appealing to passersby, after all there's a lot of area to cover and you only have seconds to catch someones eye. This was one we saw as we drove by but never had a chance to stop. Very shabby chic.

There are styles for everyone. Ornate wooden gilded trim....

...to vintage utilitarian treasures that need a little more imagination and TLC
to make them come to life.

Some of the booths were under big tents which helped us get out of the hot sun.

A view of the main road with one of our new finds that you'll see more on Laura's last post. We did get some strange looks as we were going by. I'm just happy it never fell off the roof. ha-ha.

After day 1.

When we got back we laid all our goodies out on the porch and oohed and ahhhed over each others finds. It was such a good 1st day and we still had tomorrow to discover more.

There's still more to see but now I need to figure out what else will be included in the give away in the a la Jeanne d'Arc Living style along with the magazine.
